Giggling Squid Harpenden occupies the site of a former Italian restaurant that had a number of operational problems. These included small kitchens spread over two floors, a compromised means of escape, low ceilings beneath an existing mezzanine, and a staircase concealed behind existing joinery. On the plus side, the premises included a courtyard garden, double-height interior, internal balcony and a vaulted roof. Changes to both the building fabric and interior were carefully developed and undertaken with Giggling Squid, resulting in a restaurant that is both functional and visually appealing.
