LOCH FYNE ST ALBANS

Loch Fyne St Albans is located within the remnants of a 16th century coaching inn, which had previously been used as a car tyre garage. The rudimentary garage elements, including a rusty corrugated metal roof, were removed to reveal the historic building. A grade-one natural slate roof was installed and the tarmac floors excavated, levelled and stone-paved with a watching archaeological brief. Crittall glazing and conservatory roofing enclose areas that had originally been open to the sky. The external walls were insulated and clad in green-oak weatherboarding. Framed, braced and ledged sliding garage doors were added to the outbuildings. A modest shop now occupies a portion of the outbuilding space where customers can purchase Loch Fyne produce over the counter. This is perhaps Loch Fynes’ most ambitious project to date.
