THE BARLEY MOW

Located in Englefield Green, Surrey, this village pub was in a sad and sorry state when it was taken on by The White Brasserie Co. The cellar was flooded and the Georgian weatherboarding was rotted through. While the building featured a large mature garden, the relatively small interior made restaurant dining untenable. Central to the scheme is a large yet sympathetically designed rear extension housing a new kitchen and dining space. Complementing the existing building, the new brick-built addition incorporates shiplap boarded external walls, as well as a combination of plain clay tile and slate roofs. Inside, the dining room features exposed structural frames made from reclaimed 1930s iron arches, and three pairs of French doors that open onto a generous external terrace.
