THE OLD LODGE GOSPORT

The Old Lodge Hotel is a Listed Former Georgian villa in Gosport across the water from Portsmouth. It was reputed to be the home of the gentleman scientist that did the science of ship buoyancy that informed the establishment of the Plimsoll line upon merchant ships. During the works a brick chamber was found in the carpark that may have been used in these experiments. The project was to provide an extension to the side of the building that would provide a dining room and kitchens at ground floor and additional bedrooms at first floor.

The extension was designed to be sympathetic to the original Georgian listed building but to be secondary and not compete with the original building.
Attention was paid to refinement of joinery detailing to windows and doors. Shallowness of roof pitch eaves etc. The interior design of the dining room and bedrooms was by the owners.
